Sept. 20, 2018, on Facebook…
I’ve been wondering what my goal in life is, and I think I may have finally figured it out.
- Pay cash for a new car.
- Hire somebody nice to take care of the place.
- Pack up the wife and some gear.
- Start driving.
- Head toward someplace we don’t know.
- Talk and talk and look at stuff.
- Stop and eat.
- Find some peaceful place to sleep.
- Repeat a few hundred times.
- Visit some friends.
- Leave before they get sick of us.
- Drive some more.
- Lie down at night and feel homesick.
- Stare deep into the Milky Way in the middle of the Big Lonely.
- Spot a “For Sale” sign on the place we’ve always wanted.
- Pay cash for it.
- Park the car.
- Listen to the animals howl and chatter and hoot.
- Feel that good cold again and wonder: What’s over there?
- Go see.
Our friend Dave Winer commented “Please put that on your blog, it’s too good to waste on Facebook.” But at the time I wasn’t really doing that, so I didn’t.
But it appears that I’m back to putting things on a blog again, and since this list is still pretty much what I have in mind (although what would we do with the dogs? There’s a new, annoying thought), here it is.
When in doubt, go see.
